Keeping you and our staff safe and healthy

We are again looking forward to a great ski season and hope you can join us. Like last year, skiing and snowboarding will be a little different this season due to COVID-19 and we want to make sure you are aware of all the impacts COVID-19 will have on your visit to Sunridge. These plans are based on government guidance, numerous discussions and meetings with our ski areas association and other local ski areas, and are made to ensure the health and safety of you and our staff.

What to expect this winter

On the hill, you will enjoy the same fun and friendly experience that you've come to expect at Sunridge. All lifts and runs will be open and our tubing and Terrain Parks will also be open as usual.

However, the major change that you will see this year is that we are participating in the Restrictions Exemption Program (REP) for access to the chalet (except the washrooms). This means that everyone 12 and older must show their Alberta vaccine record with QR code, a negative COVID PCR or rapid test, or a medical exemption letter, to come inside the chalet. If you are 18 or older, you must also show valid photo ID.

You do not have to show proof of vaccination if you are going directly to the hill to go skiing or snowboarding and not coming inside the chalet, or if you are using the washrooms as washroom access is from the outside doors only.

In a regular season, we are open weekdays from 9:30am until 9pm and on weekends and holidays from 9:30am until 5pm. However, this season, our hours are reduced during the week as many school field trips are still not taking place. As a result, in the early season, we will be open Monday to Friday from 5pm to 9pm and weekends from 9:30am to 5pm. During the holidays, we are open regular hours, and after the holidays we will be open on Wednesday and Friday from 9:30am to 9pm, Thursday from 1pm to 9pm, and Monday and Tuesday from 5pm to 9pm.

Check our conditions page for more details on our hours of operation.

These hours are subject to change at any time and if school field trips are booking again, we will extend our hours to as close to normal as possible.

As we are participating in the Restrictions Exemption Program (REP), everyone 12 and older must show their QR code at the chalet entrance doors everytime you come inside. You may also show a negative COVID PCR test taken within 72 hours or have a valid medical exemption letter. If you do not have your QR code, a valid negative PCR test result or a medical exemption letter, you will not be permitted in the chalet. There are no restrictions on capacity inside the chalet, the cafeteria will be fully open, cubby holes will be available, and all tables and benches will be setup as usual on the main floor and in the upper lounge.

For those 18 and older, valid photo ID must also be shown. Valid photo ID includes your drivers licence, current school ID, a passport, or a Sunridge season pass.

A negative COVID PCR test must meet the following criteria:

  • It must be a written or printed copy that indicates the individual has tested negative for COVID-19 on a Health Canada approved rapid antigen, rapid PCR, or lab based PCR test approved by Health Canada or the lab accreditation body of jurisdiction.
  • Valid test results should be a written or printed copy that clearly outlines the type of test, time of sample collection, clear indication of a negative result, and laboratory that completed the test, if applicable.
  • Photos of a rapid test or result taken offsite is not sufficient.
  • A self-test completed offsite or self-produced documentation of a negative test result is not valid.
  • Do not bring completed self-tests or rapid tests to businesses due to communicable disease risk.
  • Tests must not be from the Alberta Health Services public COVID-19 testing system.

Just like last year, washroom access will be from the outside doors only. You do not have to show proof of vaccination to access the washrooms.

As our food services are inside the chalet, at this time you must show proof of vaccination to order food or drinks. We are working on a system to order cafeteria items using your smartphone which could then be delivered to you on the deck, but this system is still in development and we don't have an estimate on when it will be available.

Before you come to Sunridge to pick up your pass, be sure to complete the online season pass release agreement and to have your pass photo uploaded to your account for each family member. You can find both the release agreement and the pass photo at the bottom of the My Account page for each family member. If you see a notice that your season pass has not been linked to your account as yet, please email us at info@skisunridge.com.

If you are 12 years or older, please bring your proof of vaccination QR code. If you are 18 or older, you also need to show photo ID. We will be confirming your vaccination status upon entry to the chalet to pick up your pass. If you are unable to show proof of vaccination, you must pick up your season pass from the outside ticket window.

Everyone except passholders must pick up a lift ticket when they come to the hill. There are no capacity restrictions this year so you do not have to make a reservation to come skiing. We will have ticket checkers with scanners on both chairlifts so be sure to have your ticket or season pass on at all times.

Tickets can either be picked up inside at one of our three ticket desks or you can pick up your ticket at the outside ticket window if you don't want to come inside.

Walking tickets are FREE at reception and must be picked up if you are walking to the Bunny Hill to watch your children in lessons or are walking to the tube park to view tubing. Spectators with walking tickets may not use the carpet lifts or chairlifts and are not permitted to walk on the Bunny Hills or up to the chairlift. If you wish to walk up and down the Bunny Hill to assist your children or ride the Carpet Lift without equipment to assist your children, then you must have at least a Bunny Hill lift ticket.

Everyone renting equipment must have a Sunridge account and must have completed the online Rental Release Agreement (waiver of liability). We strongly recommend that you create an account and complete the waiver before coming to the hill.

A mask or face covering that covers your nose, mouth and chin will be required inside the chalet at all times. Masks or face coverings are also highly recommended in the lift lines and on the lifts. You do not have to wear a mask while you are skiing except during lessons when masks are still required for the duration of the lesson.

There are no exemptions to the mask requirement in the chalet or in lessons. You can of course still enjoy the ski area, the outside deck and you can pick up your lift tickets at our outside ticket window.

No, at this point, you do not have to make a reservation to come skiing. Should Provincial regulations or health orders change, this policy may change.

No. You can go directly to any lift as long as you have your season pass with you. We have scanners at the chairlifts so please be sure your pass is easily accessible for the scanners.

Yes, our plan is to have two Terrain Parks again this winter. Our early season temp. park on Porcupine will be built first and then we will be working with the Edmonton Freestyle Ski Club and Arena Snowparks to build the Big Park.
